I Think I Can Love You Again if You Could Only Say â€ëœi Dont Know
As a kid, were yous a big fan of the horror pic genre?
Absolutely. I've always been into horror movies; The Creature From The Black Lagoon always loved horror movies. Anytime The Fly was on information technology was like, end what you're doing, whatever you had to do to stay up late and catch whatever midnight animate being moving-picture show.
The get-go horror picture show that really affected me was the original Halloween. What is the movie or movies that had a profound affect on you?
I also love Carpenter's Halloween and I would have to say The Exorcist.
Did you get to film school?
Nope.
How did you go into the business so?
You know, you always sit around with your friends saying, ‘this is what I would do' and then there comes a time when yous could either go on talking virtually what your going to do or y'all pick up a camera and just get practise it.
In your opinion, what is your favorite kill scene in a film?
I really dug the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre when Leatherface picks upward his victim and places her a meat hook and she's even so squirming, although, I don't believe that'due south the injury actually killed her so I don't if we can call information technology a kill. I actually liked that film. Kevin Bacon got a really good kill in Friday The thirteenth.
What fabricated you have House Of The Wolf Man in the direction that you did? The inspiration was obviously based on the vintage creature films.
That'due south one of the things filed under, no one is going to practice it, and, you know, information technology's for obvious reasons. You know, everything has to be widescreen, basically it'south the people that put more than emphasis on technical specifications than story telling itself. I grew up with classic monsters and when I heard they were remaking the Wolf Human, and Rick Baker, I was hoping that it would full of classic monster flair. I just wanted to pay homage to the films that I grew up loving.
Will there be a sequel to Ill Daughter?
Yeah, it was actually intended to exist a trilogy so nosotros have two more of those just waiting.
Who are some directors that aren't the â€Å"usual†horror directors that inspire y'all?
William Friedkin, across the lath, I mean he's a manic, he'll do annihilation to get the shot. Just read that book Hurricane Billy or watch Fear of God, the Exorcist documentary. I volition say that Friedkin is ane of my biggest influences.
Would you e'er be open to remake a large upkeep, mainstream movie?
To quote Winston Zeddmore, â€Å"Is a paycheck involved?â€But to reply your question, I approximate the right project. I can retrieve of remakes I would like to do. There's this film, it was an old made-for-Television receiver-movie chosen, Gloliath Awaits. Information technology's a cross between The Poseidon Take chances and I-Don't-Know-What. But I would do anything in my ability to stop a remake of The Exorcist even it meant missing out on the chance to do studio picture.
Keeping on the topic of remakes, is Hollywood just getting lazy?
Pretty much, only then you have some films that kind of feel like pseudo remakes similar, Inception. I was thinking, for all intense purposes, this is like Dreamscape. And then I went in and I was similar oh, this should merely have been a remake of Dreamscape.
You lot didn't like Inception?
I was bored out of my mind. You know what? I guess I had such unreasonably high hopes and I felt similar it had this bad-donkey score but there wasn't much going.
Take you lot seen Homo Centipede, and if so, what did you lot call up about information technology?
I literally almost watched that other night, I put information technology on the top of my list like, I'k watching this. Especially when my buddy of mine gets a Human Centipede tattoo. I was like, if someone gets a Human Centipede tattoo, I might have to encounter this.
What do you think is the worst horror motion-picture show cliché?
I think information technology'southward the bravado of these characters like, yous know, ‘I hear something downstairs…' Don't go me wrong if somebody'southward in my house I'm going to go encounter what's going on but I'g not going to get exercise it with this swagger just to impressive my wife. I'll grab a bat, I'll be cautious; I might take a phone gear up to become.
I saw your trailer for The Con, your documentary that took half-dozen years to make nigh comic, horror and every other â€Å"nerd†convention. When will that be coming out?
Its suppose to exist out March 2011, and its just not most the cons, its virtually the promoters, the fans, and the vendors. Its not simply a fluff piece where we kiss some shows donkey. Its 100% existent, people saying that evidence ripped me off and I'll tell y'all why, this celebrity loafed on me, this promoter doesn't pay his guest. Information technology'due south but raw and honest. It was over half-dozen years in the making. I hateful we take footage of when OJ was at Necro Comic Con.
Is Stan Lee ane of the coolest former dudes in the earth?
He'southward cool, but, simply in general, I'd say if you really have fond memories of someone, no matter who it is, and y'all have this pre-conceived notion that they are the greatest people, and this has nothing to do with Stan Lee, simply in general, I would recommend not meeting them.
I could potentially ruin your day.
Absolutely, but like Roddy Piper, he was awesome. Growing up, I loved The Piper'due south Pit, Piper was my favorite wrestler, I met him and that guy goes out of his way to make all fans experience like, ‘this is my time' and it frustrates some promoters because they want to make the money, anybody is similar bottom feeders, they latch on, and the more autographs you sell, the more money they get a piece of–they desire you lot to keep moving and moving. He'south there for the fans.
It seems that every iii to 4 movies that are being released at present have to exist in the 3-D format.
It's a gimmick. Who cares? In that location are very few filmmakers that haven't even mastered 2-D and they're worried most 3-D. Why just start with a film that awesome, and go from in that location.
Tell me nearly your other new film, Hannukkah.
It's going to be a fun slasher film. Only like House Of The Wolf Man, its i of those things that, no one else is going to practise information technology, then I might too. Information technology has a bunch of back up online, and no one actually has a trouble with information technology. I recollect the beginning affair people think that its going to be some sort of wacky one-act but in actuality it's a dead serious balls to the wall picture show. I have a lot of Jewish friends that are horror fans, and they had to sit through Silent Dark Deadly Dark, then it's similar here, it'southward a freakin' Hannukkah flick, don't worry about it.
Do you ever think about venturing exterior of horror?
I only want to brand films that interest me, then they wouldn't necessarily take to be horror, but most people apply horror as a launching pad. And that's why at that place are and so many crappy horror films it'due south a catch 22. Its like, horror films are stupid but they brand so much money, so I'll only make horror movies until I tin brand a real flick, and so that's why current horror movies are stupid. Look at Silence Of The Lambs, information technology was a great horror moving-picture show simply as soon as it got academy nomination, it was a crime thriller, it was like they couldn't telephone call it a horror film. I would do something outside of horror but I see horror movies equally real movies. I would entertain other genres merely I'm non looking to leave of horror or away from it. Its not similar a launching pad, it'due south a destination, its where I want to be.
